Assistant Controller


Primarily responsible for ensuring that the Company satisfies all reporting requirements in an accurate and timely manner, so that both internal and external users have all necessary information in the manner and format requested.

What You ll Do:

  • Daily and monthly activities:
    • Maintain an accurate general ledger with clear documentation of all transactions and all related intercompany transactions
      • Review and approve general ledger entries prepared by other staff members
      • Review and approve refund checks to customers
      • Review and approve check & electronic payments to vendors
    • Supervise the month-end close and prepare designated schedules, journal entries, and financial statements as needed
    • Review balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate/resolve discrepancies timely
    • Maintain daily cash spreadsheet projecting cash needs for the coming month
  • Other responsibilities:
    • Assist in preparing or reviewing all necessary schedules to support quarterly reviews and the year-end audit, including coordination of year-end closing procedures/schedule and the external auditor on-site field work
    • Assist in preparing or reviewing all necessary schedules to support the year-end tax return preparation by the external tax specialists
    • Assist in preparing or reviewing all necessary schedules to support the Company s 401(k) plan audit
    • Assist with development of the Company s annual budget, including any modifications made throughout the year
    • Perform ad hoc reporting, analysis, and project work as requested by the Controller and/or management
    • Assist in providing accounting/finance support for other departments, including support for board meetings and/or quarterly reports
    • Ensure the maintenance of existing internal control policies and procedures and assist in developing and implementing new policies and procedures as necessary
    • Maintain files for contracts and agreements
    • Other responsibilities as needed

What We re Looking for:

  • Bachelor s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field
  • CPA certification and a minimum of 5-6 years of combined public accounting and private industry experience
  • Current knowledge of technical accounting requirements
  • Excellent PC and Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and mentor a great team
  • Experience with corporate taxation is preferred
  • Experience with internal controls documentation and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance is preferred
  • Retail or consumer products experience is preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
