Summary:
The Weekend Packaging Supervisor is responsible for overseeing operations on the various packaging lines that run at Octopi.
The main objective in this role is the achievement of production goals while maintaining high-quality standards and a safe working environment.
The Packaging Supervisor will lead a team of Packaging Specialists and collaborate closely with other departments to ensure seamless operations.
Primary
Responsibilities:
Safety and Compliance:
o Promote and maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety policies, procedures, and practices.
o Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
o Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and standards.
Continuous Improvement:
o Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings and waste reduction.
o Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and monitor improvement initiatives.
o Utilize principles of change management to improve identified areas of opportunity.
Quality Assurance:
o Implement and enforce quality assurance practices to ensure that all packaged products meet the Octopi's quality standards.
o Conduct regular inspections of packaging lines, equipment, and finished products to identify and resolve any quality issues.
o Train and educate packaging operators on quality standards, proper packaging techniques, and adherence to quality practices.
Production Management:
o Coordinate and supervise packaging operations, ensuring the timely and efficient execution of production plans.
o Monitor and track production progress, identifying and addressing any issues or bottlenecks to ensure continuous flow.
o Coordinate labor staffing daily to ensure achievement of daily plans and in alignment with budgeted staffing levels.
o Ensure operating environment is kept to required levels of cleanliness and organization.
o Collaborate with other departments to optimize production schedules and ensure awareness of progress against the daily plan.
Team Leadership:
o Supervise a team of packaging operators, providing guidance, support, and training to ensure their productivity and job satisfaction.
o Delegate tasks effectively, ensuring that packaging leads and team members understand their responsibilities and are equipped with the necessary resources.
o Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and address any performance or disciplinary issues in a timely and constructive manner.
o Create and maintain a culture based in teamwork, inclusion, engagement, and accountability.
o Ensure timely communication of information within the packaging team being lead and within the department.
All parties should understand relevant progress against current goals as well as future objectives.
o Responsible for personal and team member adherence to company and departmental policies, and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills/Abilities:
o Proven experience in a supervisory role within a multi shift packaging or manufacturing environment.
Packaging industry experience preferred.
o Hands on experience and knowledge of packaging or manufacturing processes, high speed manufacturing equipment and associated conveyance.
o Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop employees; ability to create team-oriented environment.
o Ability to work with and relate to all levels of personnel.
o Experience with the principles of change management to drive desired improvements across areas such as process, culture, quality, and safety.
o Solid understanding of quality assurance principles and practices.
o Proficient in implementing and enforcing safety regulations and standards.
o Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making abilities.
o Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
o Ability to work weekends and flexible hours as required.
Weekend shifts are 12 hours plus time before and after the shift to ensure smooth handoffs.
o Maintain confidence with business and employee information.
Physical Requirements o Bending, stooping, twisting, and stretching motions are required throughout the shift.
o Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods (8
hours).
o Must be able to lift 55lbs and move pallets with a pallet jack.
Education and
Experience:
o Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
o Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory capacity preferred.
o Proficient in MS Office products.
o Preferred, but not required, experience.
o Background in brewery or beverage industry.
o Good manufacturing principles (GMP).
o Safe Quality Food (SQF).
o Forklift certification.
